Catholics will have a noticed a change in the phraseology of the mass where the expression “for you and for all men” has been replaced by “for you and for many”. I don’t know the theology of the change but it seems to me that there has been a narrowing of the Pearly Gateposts.
The Osbornes have a share in a three year old named Multitasking, by the underrated Multiplex. On Friday night at Dundalk he flashed past the line and the judge called for a photo between him and Exhortation, a Juddmonte horse trained by DK Weld. A quick communication ensued along the lines of “Man Above, they have Frankel, we have Multitasking, you know the drill (by the way, you will notice how meek I have been lately)”. The judge called the result – Exhortation by a nose. Followed by expletive from a mouth.
On a slightly bigger stage, having had a particularly bad run of headlines, racing suddenly never had it so good. Frankel is well and was so impressive on Saturday and then I’ll Have Another set up a Triple Crown attempt when winning the Preakness at Pimlico Saturday night. With Camelot heading for Epsom we are enjoying a superb season with so much in prospect. By the way, was Mike Smith accused of going too slow on Bodemeister this time?
I have been accused of not advertising Invincible Spirit’s tremendous season enough. He has had a great run with Stakes wins almost daily at times and a really promising run by Ektihaam at York over 10 furlongs in the Dante. He is third on the overall sires list and can continue the run with many of his horses now showing form over longer trips. Advertising pays, but it also costs and the most powerful form of advertising is surely the winning post.
We had a visit from the Chinese Ambassador last week and expect another high ranking Chinese official this week, so it has been an appropriate year to have a Chinese student Mr James Guo on our stud management course this year. Indeed it transpires that he lives ten minutes from the Ambassador’s house in Beijing, again demonstrating how small the world has become.
