Western Comandor lands Maiden Hurdle at Down Royal

Western Comandor, a 5YO son of Elusive Pimpernel landed the opening maiden hurdle at Down Royal on St Patrick’s Day for trainer John Ryan and jockey Liam Quinlan.

Western Comandor was reappearing after a four-month winter break, striking the front two out to win by half a length after veering across the track.

Well bred, Hunt Ball is a brother to his dam (Western Rose)

Racing Post analysis; A well-held fifth in a 3m Listed event when last seen in November, seemed to want to go left in the closing stages, giving the impression he would prefer going left-handed. He did well to win, and one would imagine he will stay on the go for the spring and summer.

Post race Trainer John Ryan commented ‘He’s always looked a classy horse, he’s a well-bred horse and he could be a nice little novice hurdler’.
