El Rio wins in fine style at Ascot

El Rio set the record straight at Ascot on Sunday winning easily under David Bass beating the hot favorite emphatically.

Having started his career in Ireland in bumpers, he won a Point to Point at Necarne, before being transferred to Kim Bailey and made his debut at Chepstow in February. He travelled incredibly well that day and looked to have the race put to bed before coming down at the last.

However, El Rio got his redemption at Ascot and couldn’t have done it any easier beating the 119 rated Mylesfromwicklow by 11 lengths going away. The son of Elusive Pimpernel is an exciting prospect for the Bailey team going forward and could be anything going into next season.

El Rio (ex Princess Jaffa) was bred by Miss Tara Doran, a Tattersalls Ireland graduate when selling as a foal to Kevin Ross Bloodstock for €12,500.

Elusive Pimpernel stands for €2,000 (in advance of covering).
