The Ice Phoenix Soars to Victory at Lingfield

The Ice Phoenix, a scion of the illustrious Phoenix of Spain, made his mark as the 17th individual winner for his sire. The two-year-old seized the Novice Stakes at Lingfield in style under the guidance of the jockey David Egan for Trainer Charlie Hills and Owner Ann Plummer (One More Moment of Madness & Partner) who had also owned and trained his sire Phoenix of Spain, in those iconic pink and blue silks.

Bred by John Grogan, The Ice Phoenix is the 13th  foal out Bratislava, who has produced 9 indivudal winners including the highly rated Katla (6f inc 2yo/Listed; RPR 106), Rapid Reaction (Group-placed 5f; 101) and Eaglefield (7f; 99).

Purchased at the Goffs Orby Sale for €65,000, where he caught the discerning eye of his Trainer Charlie Hills and McKeever Bloodstock.

Phoenix of Spain, the sire of The Ice Phoenix, is setting the turf ablaze with his first crop of two-year-olds. His influence as one of the leading first-season sires is undeniable, boasting an impressive tally of 17 individual winners and 42.5% winner to runners, a testament to his ability to pass on his winning attributes.

Among his offspring, the Vintage Stakes Group 2 winner Haatem has already distinguished himself on the track. With such early success, it’s evident that Phoenix of Spain is nurturing a bright constellation of rising stars destined to illuminate the 2024 season and beyond.
