Nando Parrado’s First Foals Garner Strong Interest at Autumn Sales

The eagerly anticipated debut of Coventry Stakes victor Nando Parrado’s progeny took center stage at the recent autumn sales held at Goffs, Tattersalls and Tattersalls Ireland.

Impressive prices were achieved, reflecting the widespread enthusiasm for the son of Kodiac. Notable transactions included 38,000 guineas, 32,000 guineas, €38,000, and €32,000, showcasing the broad appeal of Nando Parrado’s offspring. Among the astute purchasers were WH Bloodstock, Piercetown Stud, and Ballyphilip Stud, the latter securing two colts. The Irish National Stud demonstrated their commitment to our young sire by acquiring three foals, further solidifying Nando Parrado’s growing influence.

Other prominent names in the industry, such as Loughmore Stables and Jamie Railton Bloodstock, also seized the opportunity to invest in Nando Parrado’s legacy. The widespread interest from astute pin-hookers underscore the quality and potential of these first foals.

Looking ahead, the diverse range of purchasers reflects the widespread appeal of Nando Parrado, he achieved an impressive average of €17,800 for 20 foals sold at Goffs with three foals surpassing €30,000. A 20,500gns average for six foals sold at Tattersalls represented another solid result for the son of Kodiac who makes plenty of appeal to breeders operating on a budget.

INS CEO Cathal Beale commented at Goffs “Nando has been the great story of the day. Again, there’s been nothing selling for below the stud fee, which is important. His average is very strong and prices of €38,000, €24,000 and €19,000, it’s important that breeders can make a few quid. They’ll all come back and support him next year, I’m sure. I think everyone has been impressed with them and they are a good, solid, even bunch.

“They look like him and we all know what he did as a foal–Paul McCartan is one of the greatest judges and, in his own words, he described him as one of the nicest foals he’s ever had. Carrying on from last week at Fairyhouse, where Paul bought a nice foal by Nando Parrado there, to have a very good and even spread across the board, we’re delighted. A good start is half the work and it’s been a good week for both of them with promise of more to come.”

Nando Parrado’s stud fee for 2024 remains unchanged at €6,000, reaffirming the commitment to providing exceptional value to breeders here at the Irish National Stud.
