Lucky Vega’s Foals Shine Bright at Autumn Sales

The debut of Lucky Vega’s first northern hemisphere foals at Goffs, Tattersalls, and Arqana has generated a buzz in the bloodstock community. Lucky Vega, the Group 1-winning juvenile, proved to be a hot commodity.

Top prices for Lucky Vega’s foals included 82,000 guineas, €75,000, 62,000 guineas, €72,000, and €65,000…. Notable purchasers included the Lucky Vega syndicate (acquiring 5 foals), GHS Bloodstock, KCS Bloodstock, Evergreen Bloodstock, Tally Ho Stud, JRSA (purchasing two), Oaks Farm Stables, among others.

His progeny emerged as major talking points, capturing the attention of buyers. Of the eight foals offered by the stallion at Goffs, they collectively commanded €288,000, surpassing the achievements of other sires on the day.

Lucky Vega’s averages were equally noteworthy, €36,000, placing him just behind Earthlight on €36,143.

Cathal Beale, CEO of the Irish National Stud, expressed satisfaction with the results, stating, “We’ve two Lucky Vegas in the top 10, which is great. They’ve sold great, and the talk from all of the buyers is very positive.”

He also highlighted the positive clearance rate for vendors, emphasizing that none of the horses sold fell below the stud fee. The top-priced Lucky Vega foal at Goffs, sold for €65,000 to the Lucky Vega syndicate, which showcased strong internal support.

Speaking about the syndicate, headed by Sam Fairgray, COO at Yulong Investments, Cathal continued, “It was great to see that support from within.” The syndicate, featuring powerhouse owner Zhang Yuesheng, secured five foals by their young sire.

At the completion of the November foal sales Lucky Vega’s progeny has achieved a top price of €99,291 (82,000gns) an average of €41,644 and median of €35,500.

Lucky Vega’s stud fee for 2024 remains unchanged at €12,500, exceptional value to breeders, after his strong results at the recent sales.
