The Irish National Stud topped Day One of the Goffs Orby sale yesterday when our home-bred son of Invincible Spirit out of our winning Pivotal mare Aimhirgin Lass was purchased by Ben McElroy Equine for £420,000 on behalf of Barbara Banke’s Stonepoint Thoroughbred Holdings. He is set to go into training with Wesley Ward.
He is the second produce of Aimhirgin Lass who raced in the Presidential colours when trained by John Oxx. Having delivered a filly by Invincible Spirit earlier this year, Aimhirghin Lass is now in foal to Irish 2000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain.
Her first foal, the once-raced Castlebar , was sold at last year’s sale for €460,000. Like her son, Aimhirgin Lass was bred by the Irish National Stud out of the unraced Nebraas, whose three Black-Type performers and eight winners include Listed winner Seeharn, and the Group 3 winner Yellow Rosebud.
After the sale Ben McElroy commented “He’s been bought for the same connections as Campanelle and will head to Florida to Stonestreet Stables’ facility before joining Wesley Ward in the spring.”
“I know the family pretty well as I was underbidder on Yellow Rosebud,” the agent continued. “And I remember the brother from last year. This is a really nice colt, just the type of horse we are looking for, and we hope he’ll be a Royal Ascot horse.”
We wish his new connections the very best of luck with him.
At the conclusion of Day one of Goffs Orby Invincible Spirit held the 1st and 3rd top lots of the day. The 3rd top Lot was a home-bred colt from Airlie Stud, a half-brother to Group 3 winner and Group 1 July Cup-placed Eastern Impact as well as the Group placed Miss Katie Mae, sold to Mark Mc Stay of Avenue Bloodstock for £350,000.
