Willie McCreery will train the first two-year-old for the Irish National Stud Breeding and Racing Club this year, a filly by Invincible Spirit.
McCreery has had plenty of success with fillies, the highlight being Fiesolana, who struck in the Group 1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last year.
Irish National Stud chief executive John Osborne said: ‘It’s fantastic that Willie has been selected to train the filly; as a graduate of our course he understands what the Irish National Stud is all about and I’m confident the Lia filly is in good hands.
‘The Irish National Stud Breeding and Racing Club is a new venture that presents an affordable way to participate in the greatest game and with the support of people like Willie we would hope it can establish itself as a unique club that encourages more people to take an active role in the bloodstock industry.’
The club’s members are set to visit the filly at McCreery’s Rathbride Stables on February 7 before heading to the Irish National Stud to see broodmares along with the resident stallions. The club will then spend the afternoon at Naas for the Opera Hat meeting.
The club hope to run a catalogue of events for members throughout the year. As well as having a filly to race, the club also have an interest in two broodmares, Ksenia and Veronica Falls, who are both in foal to Irish National Stud stallion Big Bad Bob.
There are still a number of memberships available. Interested parties can contact Ciarán De Barra on 045 521 251 or firstname.lastname@example.org
