King Of Royal Ascot

17th Jun 2014

The score was 1-1 between Kingman and Night of Thunder going into today’s bout in the St. James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and the race was set up to determine 2014’s top 3 year old miler. Richard Hughes set steady fractions from the front on the Newmarket 2000 Guineas winner and turning for home he tried to stretch the field. Kingman was still cruising on the outside however and he showed a deft turn of foot to take the race impressively by 2 ¼ lengths.

Trainer John Gosden outlined plans to freshen him up as he has had 4 races already this season having taken the Greenham Stakes, Irish 2000 Guineas and finishing runner up in the Newmarket 2000 Guineas before today. Targets mentioned by his trainer included the Prix Jacques le Marois and the Queen Elizabeth II at Ascot later in the season.

We at the Irish National Stud are thrilled for all the connections of Kingman and cannot wait to see him back on the racecourse!
