INS Weekend Roundup: Invincible Spirit 1-2 at Deauville
15th May 2017
Two of Invincible Spirit’s Group 1 winners from 2016 kicked of their 2017 campaigns by going head to head in the 5f Group 3 Prix de Saint-Georges at Deauville on Saturday. Prix Maurice de Gheest winner Signs Of Blessing ran out an impressive winner, coming away with bragging rights over Profitable in second. A great day for Invincible and a great starting point for these two sprinters, in which a big season await. Royal Ascot is next on the agenda for the pair, and we look forward to seeing who comes out on top in front of The Queen.
Irish National Stud homebreds had a successful weekend with Nearly Caught finishing a close second in the Group 2, Comer Group International Oleander-Rennen at Hoppengarden, Germany. Nearly Caught has been very successful for trainer Hughie Morrison, a six time winner including a Group 2, the aim this year will be to add a win at the highest level to his record. The 7yo is a son of the INS owned mare Katch Me Katie who has been a fantastic breeder with her progeny including Pale Mimosa and Suailce. Katie has a lovely 2yo by Camelot in training with Dermot Weld who knows the family very well.
Another INS homebred made an exciting debut in Italy this weekend. Captain Cirdan a 2yo son of INS owned Malikayah made winning start to his racing career at Milano on Saturday. Black type may beckon for the juvenile colt by the late Big Bad Bob.
