Congratulations Craig

Congratulations Craig

5th Jul 2018

We want to say a huge congratulations and well done to one of our own staff members Craig Clarke for his part in helping Ireland win the Gold in the Special Olympics in Basketball!

Craig works with the gardening team at the Irish National Stud & Gardens and recently took part in the Special Olympics playing and winning for Ireland!

The Games were on from June 14th – 17th in Dublin. They are the qualifying event for the World Summer Games which are on in Abu Dhabi in March 2019. Selections for Team Ireland will take place in July when 91 athletes will be selected to represent the country in 12 sports.

The Ireland Games saw 1600 athletes from the 5 Special Olympics regions take part in the 13 sports across 3 days of high quality competition. They were supported by 2500 volunteers. Team Leinster sent 276 athletes and returned with 369 medals in total.

Special Olympics Ireland is a year-round sports training and competition programme for people with an intellectual disability. The benefits of participation in Special Olympics extend beyond the physical benefits of sport; it’s about team spirit, friendships and fun; it’s about a feeling of belonging and a sense of being part of a community. Special Olympics changes lives in so many different ways, enabling people with an intellectual disability to achieve and win not only in sport but in life too.

Once again, well done Craig!!!!!
