Students Honor Clinch (UK) and Stuart Tyrrell (IRE) give you an insight into their week on the Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeding Course.
It has been an action-packed week for all the members of the Irish National Stud course, from a quiz night at the Lord Bagenal to having nine new foals. We were also lucky enough to have two guest speakers.
The first guest speaker was the renowned and respected bloodstock agent Cathy Grassick. On Monday she gave us an informative lecture on insurance policies along with emphasising the importance of manners within the industry.
Our second guest lecture was with the knowledgeable Kevin Blake, a racing journalist and TV presenter, who is also the race planner for Joseph O’Brien. He explained his background to us and described the unconventional road he took to end up at his current position, achieving so much.
On Tuesday all the students travel to County Carlow for the Mark O’Hanlon Memorial Quiz night, which tested the students’ knowledge of the racing industry. In previous years Bobby Ryan’s team have dominated the event and they went into the quiz night as hot favourites, however they were pursued by a handful of other teams, one being the Racing Post group , who managed to put in a huge effort in the final furlong to snatch a small margined victory from Bobby and teammates.
This week we also celebrated 2 students’ birthdays at the weekend, rounding off what was an eventful week!
Next week we look forward to some exciting veterinary discussions as well as a lecture from the Group Chief Executive of Goffs, Henry Beeby.
