First Foals, top prices of €105,000, €35.000, €31,000
Famous Name was a throwback to another era. A tough, sound, genuine performer who delivered at Group level for Dermot Weld over six seasons, he won 21 of 38 starts and retired as the winner of over €1.5 million in earnings. Forward enough to run second in the Killavullan Stakes at two, he was a Classic performer at three when beaten only a head in the Prix du Jockey Club and in later years racked up a series of Group race victories to become one of the most popular campaigners of recent times. In fact, he won no fewer than 13 Group races from ages three to seven, and was Group 1-placed on seven occasions, including when second in the Prix du Moulin and two runnings of the Tattersalls Gold Cup. A mile or ten furlongs came equally alike to him, while victories were recorded on grounds ranging from good to firm to heavy. Juddmonte-bred top to bottom, Famous Name is by Dansili, whose sons at stud have already provided Group 1 performers such as La Collina and Top Notch Tonto, and he hails from the family of iconic Australian mare Makybe Diva. His first foals are on the ground and include the progeny of Group 3-winning sprinter and producer Agnetha, as well as Grade 2 heroine Katdogawn.
”The form book tells you that he was the most genuine and most prolific winning horse in the history of the European Pattern. A seven-length winner over six furlongs on his two-year-old debut, through to a slew of no less than 12 Group or Listed wins at Leopardstown, a head defeat in the French Derby and retiring sound. One of Juddmonte’s most cherished horses”.
