Invincible Spirit’s fast start to the 2022 season continues with the progressive New York City scoring an impressive victory in the Listed Committed Stakes at Navan on Saturday. Having come home clear by 7L when winning his maiden at the same track on seasonal debut, New York City went to the front and fought off the 111-rated Straight Answer to win by a length.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien said “New York City is a big powerful horse. When the second came at him for a second time, he picked up again, and that’s what you like to see. He went on again in front. The plan will be the Commonwealth Cup with him.”
6 furlongs should be well within reach for this full-brother to G2 winner Invincible Army, and with jockey Wayne Lordan suggesting there is still more to come, connections have every reason to be hopeful of a bold show at Royal Ascot.
New York City is the third stakes winner in 2022 for Invincible Spirit to go alongside Pearls Galore and Egot. Only Frankel and Dubawi have more.
