As spring graces the Irish National Stud, there’s a newfound energy in the air, inviting visitors to savour the joys of the season. The cherry blossom trees are currently in full bloom, adding a touch of beauty to the surroundings and providing the perfect backdrop for a leisurely stroll through the grounds. We have over 30 varieties here at the stud, with their flowering season varying from mid March to early May
Amidst the tranquillity of the stud, the foaling season is now in full swing, with the paddocks bustling with new life. We celebrated the arrival of our 200th foal of the season, a testament to the dedication and expertise of our breeding staff and students. It’s a heartwarming sight to see the mares nurturing their new-borns in our nursery paddocks, and visitors are welcome to witness these lovely moments!
And foals aren’t the only thing born in the stud this spring. In St. Fiachra’s Garden, another delightful scene unfolds as we welcome a group of 18 ducklings and some waterhen chicks! Their antics are sure to bring a smile to your face as they paddle through the ponds.
We have also welcomed our infamous living legends back on the main grounds of the stud. Faugheen, Hurricane Fly and Beef Or Salmon can be seen enjoying their retirement out in their paddocks beside the Irish Racehorse Experience each day.
And let’s not forget about the vibrant display of spring flowers that are blossoming beautifully at the moment, adding pops of colour to every corner of the stud. The blooms of the tulips and bluebells in particular are a sight to behold, with rhododendrons and azaleas coming into blossom now also.
Whether you’re a horse enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply in search of a peaceful retreat, the Irish National Stud offers a slice of springtime paradise. Come and soak in the beauty of the cherry blossoms, marvel at the sight of our foals, and take a moment to appreciate the simple pleasures of the season. It’s the perfect time to visit and create lasting memories amidst the charm of spring at the Irish National Stud.
