Haatem, son of Phoenix Of Spain powered to victory in the Grade 3 Mint Millions Invitational Stakes at Kentucky Downs on his first start in the United States bringing his earnings to over €1 million.
Trained by Richard Hannon in the colours of Wathnan Racing and partnered by Jamie Spencer, Haatem travelled smoothly throughout before quickening clear of his rivals.
A multiple Group winner, Haatem has consistently performed at the highest level, finishing runner-up in both the English and Irish 2,000 Guineas and competing with distinction against Europe’s elite milers. His latest Stakes victory enhances an already impressive record making him a Stakes winner at 2,3,4 and 5 years, underlining the quality and durability inherited from his sire.
Haatem remains the leading standard-bearer for Phoenix Of Spain, the 2019 Irish 2,000 Guineas winner who has also sired multiple Group 1 winner Caballo de Mar alongside a growing roster of black-type performers worldwide.
Phoenix Of Spain will have his largest crop of two-year-olds in 2027 with those yearlings already being snapped up by shrewd trainers.
Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock purchased a colt from MG Bloodstock for 68,000gns most recently at the Tattersalls Somerville sale with George Scott, Andrew Balding and Richard Fahey also signing for his progeny. Significantly, Ross Doyle was also responsible for purchasing Haatem as a yearling and has been one of the stallion’s most loyal supporters from the very beginning.
Buyers will have further opportunities to invest in the sire at the upcoming Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, where Phoenix Of Spain is represented by 12 yearlings in Part I and 16 yearlings in Part II.
Go on Haatem! ❤️
