Danyah became Invincible Spirit’s 22nd Group 1 victor at the weekend when taking the Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup night under an enterprising ride from Dane O’Neill.
The dash was wide open as contenders fanned out, including last year’s runner-up Happy Romance on the far wing. The Astrologist took over from the tiring Miqyaas. Danyah was also striding into contention, near Al Suhail, who was cruising into the mix and soon asserted.
Al Suhail established a slender advantage 100 metres from the wire, but both Danyah and The Astrologist were rolling with lots of momentum. Strides from the winning post, Al Suhail slid back to third as Danyah asserted himself, pushed all the way home by the Aussie shipper. The winning margin was a head, with a neck back to Al Suhail in third.
Owned and bred by Shadwell Stud, he is the sixth produce out of the Galileo mare Cuis Ghaire. He is a brother to 5f-7f winner Ghathanfar (RPR 96), closely related to 7f winner Almohtaseb (94), half-brother to 1m4f winner Alquffal (85); dam 6f 2yo winner (inc Group 3)/1,000 second (112), and sister to 1m1f Gr 3 winner Scintillula.
It was a great start for Invincible Spirit going into the flat season, where has has plenty of horses to look forward to including the 3yo, Shartash, trained by Johnny Murtagh and owned by His Highness the Aga Khan.
