Jungle Ruler storms home at Dundalk — a striking debut victory
On Friday evening at Dundalk, Jungle Ruler (IRE) delivered a powerful first impression, capturing the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden (2yo, 7f, AW) by 1½ lengths under jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle for trainer Joseph Patrick O’Brien.
Jungle Ruler’s connections include owner Forz Europe Limited, and he was bred by Moyglare Stud Farm. He realised €75,000 at the Goffs November Foal sale when selling from Moyglare Stud to Lucky Vega in 2023.
This was Jungle Ruler’s debut performance. Leading into the race, the colt had taken part in a barrier trial at Leopardstown in August, where he finished fifth.
As the race began, Jungle Ruler tracked the leaders and was in 5th at halfway. As the race progressed he was pushed along and headway 2f out. Jungle Ruler edged right and quickened to lead over 1f out, he kept on well inside the final 150 yards.
Jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle, who only substituted onto Jungle Ruler after his intended ride (Queen of Hawaii) was withdrawn from Newmarket, described the performance as straightforward: “He jumped and travelled … he knew his job, quickened up well and hit the line strong.”
For trainer Joseph O’Brien, this win underlines his reputation for bringing forward sharp young talent. The mare’s forecast suggests Jungle Ruler has potential to progress quickly beyond the maiden ranks.
