Saturday, October 24, 2025 — The promising two-year-old colt Abundant (IRE), trained by Tom Ward and ridden by George Wood, emphatically broke his maiden at Southwell, winning the 1m 13y maiden by 5½ lengths.

Pre-race build-up

Abundant went into the race on the back of two runner-up efforts: one at Kempton and another at Bath. These outings had already marked him out as a colt with improvement in store.

The race

From the break Abundant travelled well, assumed the lead from around two furlongs out and then pulled clear to win “readily”. His winning time for the 1m 13y was 1:42.16 on the standard going.

In second placed was Delusional (IRE)(Nando Parrado) on his second start for Owner/Breeder Ringfort Stud.

 

Looking ahead

Connections may now target a move up in class — perhaps a listed event for juveniles. The key will be to see how Abundant responds to this win:

Abundant’s win at Southwell was both decisive and promising. It validated the faith placed in him by connections and suggested he’s a colt to keep an eye on. If he progresses as expected, he could be lining up in more competitive events before long.
