In a thrilling night at Brighton racecourse, Miguel, the promising two-year-old son of Phoenix of Spain, showcased his talent by breaking smartly and leading from start to finish. Owned by the formidable team of Fruci, Pakenham, Walsh & Partner and trained Jack Channon, Miguel’s victory was a testament to his future potential. Under the guidance of jockey Tom Marquand, Miguel won comfortably by over two lengths.
Bred by Andriy Milovonov & V Tymoshenko. He carries a legacy of excellence as a half-brother to the Listed-placed four-time winner Bakhchisaray. His dam, the dual Listed-placed three-time victress Brioniya, has proven to be a valuable asset, producing three winners from her four foals, including Miguel.
He was purchased as a yearling at Tattersalls December sales for the shrewd sum of 10,500 guineas by Armando Duarte, Kilbride Equine and his Trainer Jack Channon.
With this win, Miguel becomes the tenth individual winner sired by Phoenix of Spain, a statistic that speaks volumes about the sire’s prowess.
What sets Phoenix of Spain apart is his exceptional strike rate, boasting an impressive 45% of winners to runners. This remarkable success rate underscores his ability to consistently pass on his winning traits to his offspring, indicating he can do what the great sires can do, upgrade their mares.
