The Irish National Stud homebred filly, Spirit D’or, triumphed in the €250,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday, delivering a memorable win for French-based trainer Gavin Hernon. Ridden to victory by Ronan Whelan, the daughter of Invincible Spirit showed impressive determination over the six-and-a-half furlong trip, a distance she was attempting for the first time.
The race, fiercely contested on a prestigious day of racing during the Irish Champions Festival, saw Spirit D’or take a prominent position early, she powered home for a commanding two-length victory, ahead of Jessica Harrington’s Gloriously Glam.
Bred and consigned by the Irish National Stud at the 2023 September Yearling Sale, Spirit D’or continues to enhance her already promising pedigree.
The filly’s dam, Across The Sea, was a dual winner, while her second dam, Alsindi, enjoyed success as a juvenile, including victory in the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes for Clive Brittain.
Spirit D’or, the first foal out of Across The Sea, , which also includes a Phoenix of Spain weanling and the mare back in foal to the same sire.
Purchased for €55,000 by David l’Estrange and Drummona House at last year’s sale, Spirit D’or built on her recent maiden win at Moulins with this valuable victory. Her success also brings a timely pedigree update for Lot 417 in next week’s sale, as he is a full brother to the exciting two-year-old.
