Spanish Rock: Impressive Redcar Victory

Spanish Rock, a two-year-old colt sired by Phoenix of Spain, delivered a commanding victory at Redcar this past Saturday, on his second start under the tutelage of trainer George Boughey. Guided by jockey Ben Curtis and proudly owned by The Iver Park Partnership, Spanish Rock’s performance was nothing short of impressive. “There was a bit of traffic but we got there,” said Curtis

Bred by Wardstown Stud, out of the Oasis Dream mare named Rocking, half brother to 8 winners including Mustallib (RPR 106), Boston Rocker (Group-placed 6f 2yo; 102), Mr Tyrell (7f-1m inc AW; 92). Spanish Rock’s journey also includes his participation in this year’s Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale, where he caught the eye of his current trainer and was subsequently acquired for £36,000.

Phoenix of Spain, the stallion responsible for Spanish Rock’s lineage, has carved out a notable reputation as a first-season sire. With an impressive 40% success rate of winners to runners, he has produced standouts like the Group 2 Vintage Stakes champion, Haatem. This achievement firmly establishes Phoenix of Spain’s prowess as one of the leading first season sires of 2023.
