The Naturally Precocious, Nando Parrado, winner of the 2020 Coventry Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot, will have his first yearlings available for sale next week with no less than 10 entered at the Goffs UK Doncaster Premier Yearling Sale.
Nando Parrado, a 165,000gns foal, was the most expensive Paul McCartan of Ballyphilip Stud has ever purchased.
Unsold as a yearling, Paul thought so highly of the colt he sent him to trainer Clive Cox, where he raced under the ownership of his wife, Marie, in the colours of his late brother, Philip.
There is a strong syndicate behind Nando Parrado featuring Aughamore Stud, Luke Lillingston, Ronan Burns, Patrick Burns and Jack Cantillon to name but a few which ensured Nando Parrado’s stallion career got off to a solid start, covering 135 mares in his first season.
Nando Parrado’s foals averaged nearly €20,000 at the sales, which is over three times his initial stud fee. Buyers included WH Bloodstock, Paddy Twomey, and Paul McCartan, which is a strong endorsement.
The Irish National Stud will be consigning six yearlings from Nando Parrado’s debut crop at the upcoming sales.
As for the traits being passed on by Nando Parrado, CEO Cathal Beale commented ‘They’re nice animals, and you can tell they’re his from the moment you see them in the field. They’ve got the size, substance, and strength you want to see. He’s passing on a lot of quality, particularly in the head, and the sire line is known for producing tough, hardy horses that take racing well.
“So far, these yearlings have great temperaments; they’re relaxed and have been very easy to handle. We’ll learn even more about them in the coming weeks as we start their sales prep.”
