Within The Law (Aus) by Lucky Vega, showcased her class with a determined victory in the Listed Inglis Nursery over 1000m at Randwick on Saturday. Trained by Bjorn Baker, the filly produced a sharp turn of foot in the closing stages to hold off stablemate Cobra Club. The performance has put the Gr.1 Golden Slipper firmly on her radar.
Racing Manager Luke Hilton praised Within The Law’s tenacity: “She’s not the biggest filly, but she’s all heart. We sent her to Melbourne for her debut and she handled the trip brilliantly, winning the Listed Inglis Banner at Flemington. Since then, she’s just kept improving. That was a tough win today.”
Looking ahead to her potential Golden Slipper bid, he added: “We’ll take our time to decide, but the world is her oyster right now. She’s honest, professional, and handles everything we throw at her. At home, she’s not one to stand out, but on the track, she’s shown us what she’s made of.”
Bred by Yulong Investments, Within The Law was a bargain buy for Darby Racing at just Aus$30,000 from the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. She is out of Contract Signed , who was bred back to Lucky Vega this season.
The family boasts a strong pedigree, with third dam So Gorgeous (Aus) a four-time Group winner and dam of Gr.1-winning sprinter Sterling City and Gr.2 Tulloch Stakes winner Tipungwuti.
Lucky Vega, has made a promising start with his Southern Hemisphere progeny, already siring two winners from three runners.
His fee remains at €12,500 for 2025 season. Call today to discuss your matings.
