The Irish National Stud welcomed an enthusiastic crowd for the ITM Stallion Trail last week, marking the start of an imminent breeding season. Breeders, shareholders, media and racing fans gathered on Thursday to meet the stud’s latest addition, Shouldvebeenaring, and were treated to an exclusive audience with top trainer Richard Hannon, who shared his insights on the much-anticipated new sire.
Richard expressed his excitement at seeing the talented Phoenix of Spain, sire of his standout performer Haatem, alongside other promising progeny he trains by the son of Lope de Vega. The trainer’s enthusiasm didn’t stop there—he also connected with Lucky Vega and revealed he will be overseeing no fewer than seven of his offspring in the upcoming season. “It’s a thrilling prospect,” Hannon remarked, hinting that he’s eager to take on even more progeny by the top-class sire.
Visitors were also treated to a parade by the recently retired Invincible Spirit who strutted his stuff for the crowds over the weekend.
Special thanks went to all the INS staff ensuring everything ran smoothly behind the scenes including Natalie and Simona, who kept visitors refreshed and energized with an array of treats throughout the day.
This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for the stud, with both Nando Parrado and Lucky Vega poised to have their first runners in the northern hemisphere.
All eyes are now on what 2025 will bring.
