Howd’yadoit (Nando Parrado) landed a competitive five-furlong maiden for trainer Ger Lyons and owner Sean Jones at Down Royal this week.
Howd’yadoit ex Hilltop Gold (Fast Company) was bred by Michael McGlynn who sold the colt at the Goffs November Foal Sale in 2023, where he was purchased for €38,000 by Piercetown Stud and Shane Lyons.
By Nando Parrado, a Royal Ascot-winning son of Kodiac, the colt becomes the ninth individual winner for his first-season sire, who currently sits second on the European First-Season Sires’ table, behind Starman. Nando Parrado is off to a flying start with a growing number of smart, forward-going juveniles across Europe.
Assistant trainer Shane Lyons said after the race:
“We are delighted with that. He’s a very consistent horse and we didn’t think he was a five-furlong horse through and through, but we stopped off here for five because he has experience in Down Royal, which means an awful lot.”
Howd’yadoit travelled strongly and showed a willing attitude to win going away at the line. With this promising start, connections are likely to step him up in trip as the season progresses. He holds an entry in the lucrative Ballyhane Stakes at Naas on 4th August.
