Caballo de Mar, Third Group 1 Triumph

Caballo de Mar continues to enhance his reputation as one of Europe’s leading stayers, with the son of Phoenix of Spain landing a third Group 1 victory in the Prix du Cadran at ParisLongchamp, successfully defending the crown he first won in 2025. He battled back courageously to defeat the highly-fancied Scandinavia
The victory takes Caballo de Mar’s career earnings beyond €1 million and further cements his status as the standout performer from Phoenix of Spain’s early crops. When he captured his first Group 1 in the 2025 Prix du Cadran, he became the first Group 1 winner for both trainer George Scott and sire Phoenix of Spain.

For breeders and buyers, Caballo de Mar’s achievements provide another significant endorsement of Phoenix of Spain. The stallion’s influence is set to grow even further, with his largest crop of runners due to hit the track in 2027.

Perhaps the strongest endorsement of Phoenix of Spain comes from the trainers and bloodstock professionals who know his stock best. Many of those who have campaigned his biggest winners are returning to the sales ring to secure more of his yearlings, recognising their combination of soundness, temperament, resale value and untapped potential on the track.

Caballo de Mar is entered for the Group 1 Long Distance Cup on British Champions Day on 17th October.
