First-season sire Nando Parrado (Kodiac) continued his remarkable freshman campaign on Sunday when his son Howd’yadoit captured the lucrative Ballyhane Sales Race at Naas.
Trained by Ger Lyons for owner Sean Jones, Howd’yadoit showed a professional attitude and a decisive turn of foot to land the €200,000 contest, a significant juvenile prize that often serves as a launchpad for future stakes performers.
Bred by Michael McGlynn, the colt displayed class and maturity beyond his experience to defeat a competitive field.
The victory takes Nando Parrado’s strike rate to 32% winners-to-runners, the highest among the leading first-season sires in Europe this year, (www.thoroughbredstallionguide.com) a stat that underscores his precocity and consistency as a sire of quality two-year-olds.
Howd’yadoit is the sixth produce of Madam Macie (Bertolini) who produced a full brother to the winner this year, from the Family of Champion mare Tatoosh. The colt was sold as a foal at Goffs November from Summerhill Stables to Ronnie Boland’s Piercetown Stud for €38,000, The Irish National Stud were the underbidder.
Speaking after the win, trainer Ger Lyons praised the colt’s temperament and straightforward nature. “He’s got a good mind and he’s improving with every run,” said Lyons. “It’s fantastic for Sean [Jones], who’s been a great supporter, and I’m delighted for the team. The sire is really doing the job.”
Nando Parrado’s freshman roster includes a growing list of winners across Britain and Ireland, many showing a similar profile—tough, fast, and forward.
