First Stakes winner for Lucky Vega in Australia

Fresh off the back of his first runner Vega For Luck’s debut success in New Zealand, Within The Law, his first Australian runner became the first Australian winner and stakes winner for sire Lucky Vega in the $500,000 Listed Inglis Banner at Flemington.

Bred by Yulong Investments the daughter of Lucky Vega finished full of running down the stands side rail to win cosily at the line by 1 ¼ lengths under Ben Melham for trainer Bjorn Baker. Lucky Vega was a precocious son of leading sire Lope De Vega, winning the G1 Phoenix Stakes at two for trainer Jessica Harrington. Lope De Vega is one of few shuttle stallions that have tasted success in both hemisphere’s and the early indicators are that like father like son, Lucky Vega may well be following in his illustrious father’s footsteps.

His stud fee of €12,500 for 2025 off the back of his early Australian success and a northern hemisphere yearling average of nearly €50,000 represents incredible value.
