After a challenging yearling sales season for breeders, especially in the middle and lower tiers of the market, the Irish National Stud is pleased to announce that we are maintaining all our stallion fees at the same rates for 2025.
We are delighted to announce the arrival of Shouldvebeenaring to the Irish National Stud, marking the emergence of Havana Grey as a Sire of Sires. A Stakes winner at 2yo, 3yo and 4yo Shouldvebeenaring hails from Havana Grey’s first crop. He displayed remarkable soundness of mind, wind and limb throughout his career, retiring as Havana Grey’s Highest Earning colt, accumulating £552,754 from fifteen wins and placed efforts from thirty starts. With a High Timeform Rating of 118, he was his father’s equal. He will provide exceptional value standing for just €6,000.
The arrival of Shouldvebeenaring coincides with the retirement of our previous Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup winner, the breed-shaping, Invincible Spirit. His victory in the race by a nose is mirrored by Shouldvebeenaring finishing second in the same race, by the same distance. We hope that lightening can strike twice and look forward to ensuring Invincible Spirit has a wonderful retirement at the stud, befitting his legendary status.
For Phoenix of Spain, 2024 represented a coming of age, as his first crop of three-year-olds made it to the track. Led by the valiant Group 1 performer Haatem, his 28 winning three-year-olds, earned over £1million in GB and Ireland, at a strike rate of 51%. This was higher than household names such as Siyouni, No Nay Never, Wootton Bassett, New Bay, Starspangledbanner and Mehmas. With no fewer than five horses in training changing hands for six figure sums at public auction and several more traded privately, his three-year-olds have been highly sought after with the promise of much more to come. With larger books of mares covered in the last two years, momentum continues to build. With that, we have decided to retain his €10,000 fee for 2025 to continue offering great value.
The first yearlings of Lucky Vega and Nando Parrado were exceptionally well received at auction and have entered the yards of Europe’s leading trainers. With 100 two-year-olds to run for both, they will have an excellent chance of providing significant uplift to breeders. They will be available at €12,500 and €6,000 respectively.
Irish National Stud CEO Cathal Beale said, “we remain conscious that our stallion fees must reflect an opportunity for breeders to make a profit on their stock, while giving their mares the best possible chance of producing high quality racehorses. We believe that by holding our fees, breeders will find these qualities throughout our roster, at fair prices”.
