Classic winner MAC SWINEY to join the INS

We are delighted to announce that Mac Swiney, Group 1-winning two-year-old, Group 1 and Classic-winning three-year has officially been retired to stud duty and will be standing at the Irish National Stud. Bred and trained by the legendary Jim Bolger, Mac Swiney boasts an impressive pedigree as a son of New Approach out of the Teofilo mare Halla Na Saoire.

As a two-year-old sensation in 2020, Mac Swiney secured victory in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh, followed by a remarkable maiden Group 1 triumph at Doncaster over One Ruler by three-quarters of a length. His stellar racing career continued into his three-year-old season, where he clinched the coveted Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, defeating rivals Poetic Flare and Van Gogh.

“Bred in The Purple, Raced in The Purple,” Mac Swiney showcases an exceptional racing record, amassing four victories and €721,823 in earnings over distances ranging from 7 to 8 furlongs. His triumphs include the Gr.1 Futurity Trophy, Gr.2 Futurity Stakes, and the Gr.1 Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Standing at the Irish National Stud, Mac Swiney will be available for a fee of €8,000. The powerful and correct stallion, known for his incredible walk, represents a unique opportunity for breeders to tap into the winning lineage cultivated by the masterful Jim Bolger.

Mac Swiney’s list of defeated rivals include Group 1 winners, including State of Rest, Lucky Vega, Mishriff, Poetic Flare, Adayar, and Alcohol Free.

Cathal Beale, chief executive officer of the Irish National Stud, said, ”Mac Swiney is a Group 1-winning two-year-old, a Group 1 and Classic-winning three-year-old from a deep black-type family. He is a powerful, correct horse with an incredible walk and, at €8,000, he will stand at an exceptional price for a horse of his quality.”
