A host of top-quality mares purchased by BBA Ireland’s Mick Donohoe at the recent breeding stock sales across Europe have shown the support from Yulong Investments owner Yuesheng Zhang for his new stallion, Lucky Vega.
Numerous six-figure purchases were made over the course of the Goffs, Tattersalls and Arqana mare sales with €825,000 purchase Plying the top price of them. Regarding the purchase of Plying, Mick Donohoe said, “She is still a young mare and already is the dam of two stakes winners including Alcohol Free, who is a Group 1-winning 2-year-old and a proper top-class filly, and there aren’t too many first-season sires being sent that type of mare.”
Along with Plying, some of the other expensive mares purchased for Lucky Vega include Eytarna, dam of G2 winner Eziyra, So Unique who was stakes-placed herself, and Galileo mare Class Act, who is a half-sister to the Group 3 winning Most Beautiful.
Having covered a quality book of 130 mares in his first season in Australia, Lucky Vega has settled into life at the Irish National Stud very well since arriving just before Christmas. Breeders who have seen him in the flesh so far have commented on the huge amount of ground he covers with his fluid stride and his impressive overall physical structure and condition. We are hugely excited to start welcoming Yulong’s own mares and the high-quality stock of other breeders to the farm to visit Lucky Vega.
