23rd Nov 2020

Thedevilscoachman, 4YO son of Elusive Pimpernel hacked up to win the maiden hurdle at Cork racecourse by 5 1/2 lengths for Trainer Noel Meade, Owner J P Mc Manus.

Bred by Robert Long, he is the fourth foal out of the Selkirk mare Hagawi.

Racing Post analysis;

A taking hurdles debut from an exciting youngster.

THEDEVILSCOACHMAN was snapped up by JP McManus after a ready bumper win on his Naas debut in January and showed an impressive turn of foot to make a winning hurdles introduction. The ground was much more testing than when he won his bumper, but he appeared to handle it well and looks to have a bright future ahead.

Post race jockey Denis O’ Regan commented  ‘He did it very well and kept on nicely up the straight. He had been working very well at home and is a nice, laid-back horse with plenty to learn. He jumped his hurdles well enough, was a little awkward at one, but he’s a horse who can hopefully progress. He handled the ground well.’

On Saturday at Huntington  Glory And Honour, another son of Elusive Pimpernel was following up on his maiden hurdle second to win for Trainer Tom Lacey and Owners Jerry Hinds and Ashley Head. Bred by Michael D Hickey, he is the first foal out of the Sakhee mare On Khee.

Racing Post analysis;

GLORY AND HONOUR set a fair standard on his hurdles debut second at Taunton and won this decisively in the end after seeing off a determined challenge from his main marker rival over the last two hurdles.

Other exciting prospects for the Jumps season ahead for Elusive Pimpernel are recent Stakes performers:

Weseekhimhere Listed Bumper placed & Jungle Junction Grade 2 Novice Hurdle placed at Cheltenham.

Coeur Sublime Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle placed  at Punchestownrace

Elusive Pimpernel will stand in 2021 for €2,500 (in advance of covering).
