The daffodils are out – a sure sign that Winter’s fading and the nights are stretching. It was nearly 6.15pm before sunset here on the farm last night. Yippee!
There are foals being born all over the place now – Gerry Hanratty heads up our maternity wing and is flat out. Some of the mums come just for the birth, whilst some are permanent residents. Either way it’s heartwarming to see them find their legs and take their first steps.
The birds are beginning to sing louder too and with all the hedges neatly trimmed, they’ll be thinking about their nesting soon. Our mute swan is some way from that, but the first crop of ducklings wont be long for sure. This milder weather will bring everything along.
Mid-term beckons and if you need to fill an afternoon be sure to drop in to give the kids a runaround. The forecast is grey, but with the wet gear on the kids will still have a ball with plenty of sheltered breaks. Our bug hotel located in St Fiachra’s garden is a new addition and is attracting new little residents every day – all looking for somewhere to build their homes and nests.
The Japanese garden is in it’s infancy for colour, but remains a firm favourite with our younger visitors stepping through the caves. Warm up afterwards in our restaurant with a hot chocolate or a sweet treat.
A family ticket (up to 4 kids) is just €28 online or maybe upgrade after your visit and invest in a season pass for year round access. Chat to reception after your visit.
Kick back to nature and the great outdoors!
