Irish National Stud freshman sire Lord Shanakill’s first winner came as Giacas won a conditions race in Rome on Sunday. Giacas, trained by Giusseppe di Chio was having his second start having previously run second on his debut and took this 6 furlong conditions race in a time of 1:10.31. The colt put his rivals to the sword taking the six furlong contest by 5 lengths.
The 2 year old colt is a third winner for his dam Kapera, a daughter of Linamix out of the Gr.3 Senorita Stakes winner Kentucky Kaper. Lord Shanakill is having his first 2 year old runners this season and Giacas is just his third runner.
Lord Shanakill was a winner of the Gr.2 Mill Reef over 6 furlongs as a 2 year old as well as running a nose 2nd in the Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes and 3rd in the Gr.1 Prix Morny and Gr.2 Coventry Stakes. Lord Shanakill progressed from 2 to 3 placing in the Gr.1 St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot before winning the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat over a mile at Chantilly.
Lord Shanakill stands at the Irish National Stud for €5,000.
