Both Listed contests at Lingfield’s all-weather card on Saturday went to sons of Irish National Stud sire Invincible Spirit.
Rivellino kicked things off when edging out Glen Moss to take the Listed Cleves Stakes over 6 furlongs.
The five year old trained by Karl Burke is Invincible Spirit’s 85th individual stakes scorer – and has shown good form before, including when he finished a head second in the same race last year and was third in the ultra-competitive Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot.
Rivellino was bred by Castlemartin Stud and Skymarc Farm out of the Pivotal mare Brazilian Bride, winner of the Group 3 Swordlestown Stud Sprint Stakes and fourth in both the Phoenix Stakes and Moyglare Stud Stakes at two.
Another five-year-old, Grendisar, completed the Lingfield Listed double for Invincible Spirit when he got the better of the Lamar at the post in the Coral.co.uk Winter Derby Trial Stakes over 1 mile 2 furlongs.
This was Grendisar’s third Listed victory on the all-weather, having landed the Floodlit Stakes at Kempton in November and the Quebec Stakes at Lingfield a month later.
It has been a great start to the year for progeny of Invincible Spirit with his daughter Local Time running away with the UAE 1000 Guineas at Meydan just over two weeks ago. Invincible Spirit enjoyed a great season with his progeny on the turf last year with two of his sons, Kingman and Charm Spirit claiming 7 Group 1 wins between them. The super sire stands in 2015 for a fee of €100,000.
