INS Welcomes 26 Students

20th Jan 2016

The Irish National Stud welcomes 26 students from seven countries for the 2016 Thoroughbred Breeding Course. The first Thoroughbred Breeding Course was held at the Irish National Stud in 1971 and it remains the best-known equine training programme to this day. The aim of the course is to educate young people for a career in the thoroughbred industry. Many graduates have been prominent in stud farms throughout the world, racehorse training, bloodstock sales, insurance and the media.

The Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeding Course is mainly of a practical nature and is designed to provide students with a hands-on approach to every aspect of horse breeding. It involves yard work during the day and a lecture each evening by stud staff and other bloodstock industry experts. Students will visit other stud farms, racing stables, sales companies and various industry events throughout their time on the course. They will carry out written assignments and projects and will have exams in July followed by a prize giving ceremony.

Commenting on the students’ arrival, Sally Carroll, Student Liaison Officer, Irish National Stud, said: “We are delighted to welcome the class of 2016. The Thoroughbred Breeding Course is a fantastic opportunity for each student to gain valuable experience in the bloodstock industry. We hope all 26 students will enjoy their time at the Irish National Stud”.
