The Irish National Stud & Gardens are proud to congratulate employee Harry Shearman in his success during the Irish Injured Jockeys’ Corinthian Challenge. The Corinthian Challenge is a three-race series for the popular racing charity and helps raise much needed funds. Harry has raised over €11,000 for the charity and enjoyed massive success when winning the second leg of the series at Navan Racecourse on Sunday. Racegoers enjoyed the tremendous race with Harry when winning in great style aboard Nelson Road for trainer John Murphy. Harry also held a very successful race night in the local ‘Croft Inn’ in Suncroft, County Kildare, where industry leaders, friends and family supported the charity. The Irish National Stud would also like to thank all supporters and sponsors of this night.
Harry, originating from Laois completed The Irish National Stud Thoroughbred Breeding Course course in 2013 and has been working as Yard Foreman for four years. He also works at home as much as he can, where his Father breaks and pre-trains horses.
Following the race, a delighted Harry said “I’m thrilled with the win! It’s only really sinking in now to be honest, it was an incredible feeling getting there with plenty of horse and knowing that we had a real shot at winning. I would like to thank Mr. Nordlokken the owner and the trainer John Murphy and his son George, my good friend with whom I completed the Irish National Stud course, for the opportunity to ride the horse as I really am most grateful. I would also like to thank everyone who has supported me and donated to my fundraising efforts for Irish Injured Jockeys so far and my employers and colleagues at The Irish National Stud, I hope they got a kick out of the win too. Onwards and upwards now to the final race at Leopardstown next month, it’s really very exciting.”
The final race of the series will take place at Leopardstown on October 27th. We would like to congratulate all 14 participants and wish them the best of luck!
Those taking part in the challenge are amateurs from all walks of life who have made a huge commitment signing up to take part in the series not to mention the rigorous training regime that has been in place for months to get race fit for the three race series.
