INS Mare Syndicate 2022

11th Jan 2022

The 2022  Syndicate & How It Will Work
The Irish National Stud purchase a portfolio of 4 mares for a combined total of €600,000. These 4 mares will form a 100 share syndicate with each share valued at €6,000, providing shareholders with a 1% ownership of each mare and resultant foals bred. The Irish National Stud will retain at least 30 shares and will pay all expenses accordingly. Potential shareholders will have the option of purchasing more than 1 share if they so wish.

The syndicate will run for 5 years from 2022 through to 2026. The INS will sell foals born each year at the most suitable foal sales with the option to keep until yearlings if in the best interest of the animal and the syndicate. The syndicate will come to an end in 2026 with the sale of all bloodstock including the mares. At this stage the young mares progeny will have had the opportunity to race and through success in the sales ring and on the track, increase their value. Each year following foaling the mares will be covered again by commercial and high class stallions. The INS will choose the most suitable matings for each mare based on their individual needs and will include using both INS and non-INS based stallions.

Expenses each year include all keep, vet, farrier, sales, insurance and nominations fees. These costs are fully capped at a maximum of €3,000 per share with the guarantee of no further call on funds. The first expenses will be charged at year end of 2022 following the first foal sales. A statement is sent to each shareholder at the end of the year setting out proceeds of sales and costs. Any profit at the end of the year will be distributed to shareholders.

2022 Mares
We have now confirmed the four mares for the syndicate.

We purchased lot 1228 for €100,000 at Goffs for the 2022 INS Mare Syndicate.  Her name is Nabeyla, she is a winning daughter of New Approach which is really exciting. New Approach is responsible as the broodmare sire of top juveniles and G1 winners Earthlight and Modern Games in recent years. Her dam, Feedyah, is a G3 placed daughter of Street Cry, her 4yo called Aaddeey has shown progressive form in 2021. Beginning his 4yo campaign on a mark of 85 he ended it in style at Doncaster on the final day of the turf season to head into 2022 on a mark of 103. You would expect connections to be eyeing up potential tilts at blacktype races given his lofty handicap mark. Feedyah also has a 2yo colt by Iffraaj, a yearling colt by Frankel and a filly foal by Night Of Thunder. So plenty of chances for updates under the first dam.

Nabeyla herself is carrying to Dark Angel on an early cover. Dark Angel will stand for €60,000 in 2022 at Yeomanstown Stud in Kildare. 2021 was one of his best on the track as a sire with 15 BT winners spear headed by G1 winning juvenile Angel Bleu. Dark Angel’s yearling average the past two years has been €125,000 while his foal average was €102,000 in 2020 and €78,000 in 2021. He is a great first cover for this young mare. She will visit Kodi Bear who stands at Rathbarry stud for a fee of €15,000 in 2022.

We then managed to purchase two more mares in Tattersalls. The first of these was lot 1408 Sagrada Familla. Rated 96, she showed a high level of form for Joseph O’Brien winning her maiden by three lengths while five of her eleven starts came in stakes company. Bred by Mr and Mrs Deer at Oakgrove Stud her dam Longing To Dance is a listed placed daughter by the great Danehill Dancer who has bred six winners to date most notably G3 winner Be My Gal. Her 2018 offspring Mobadra by Oasis Dream has a current rating of 89 after her latest win and adds hope of a possible BT update should she continue to progress.

Covered by Whitsbury Manor resident Showcasing the sire of G1 winners and sires Advertise and Moohaather, it’s an exciting first cover for this young mare.

Showcasing regularly achieves solid results in the sales ring with a yearling average of €107,000 and a foal average of €67,000 in 2021. With his most expensively bred crop set to run for him as two-year olds in 2022 I would be hopeful there is still more to come from him as a sire and would not be surprised should his fee take a hike at the end of 2022. She cost us 90,000gns and will visit Night Of Thunder in 2022.

We also managed to purchase lot 1445 Stay Safe for 65,000 Gns at Tattersalls. Placed second on her only start, this daughter of Showcasing is a half sister to 6f Naas listed winner Letters Of Note. She is covered by the extremely promising Mehmas, who has been on a meteoric rise as a sire since his first runners hit the track in 2020. His fee for 2022 has risen from €25,000 to €50,000 off the back G1 winner Going Global, G2 winners Lusail and Caturra all enhancing his reputation in 2021. Mehmas has crossed extremely well so far with sons of Green Desert which is also something to note. We are going to mate her with Starspangledbanner who stands at Coolmore for a fee of €37,500 in 2022.

The final purchase we made for the 2022 syndicate and the most expensive was Persona Grata, who we purchased in Arqana for €190,000. She is a dual listed winning daughter of Sir Percy rated 103 and very easy to mate. Her pedigree is one of international appeal with the high class G1 winner Zaaki appearing under the first dam. Already the dam of three foals she has already shown she can produce a high class sales and racehorse with the first of her foals Lovely Esteem selling for €460,000 as a yearling before going onto be G2 placed for trainer Joseph O’Brien. Covered by the Night Of Thunder who will stand at €75,000 in 2022, he is a sire that everyone holds in the very top tier and with his mare quality on the rise over the past two years one would imagine that results on the track will only get better and better for the son of Dubawi. it’s very exciting to see what this mare could produce going forward over the next five years. She will be visiting Invincible Spirit in 2022.
