Hopes Soar For Eagle
24th Jun 2015
Free Eagle added Group 1 success to his CV last Wednesday when landing the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. He was nearly cut down in the dying strides by dual Gr.1 winner The Grey Gatsby but an interrupted preparation for the race makes the final result all the more impressive.
Free Eagle was landing this race on just his fifth career start, having been withdrawn from the Tattersalls Gold Cup due to a head cold, his race fit rival was two lengths of the winner that day but was back to his best as he challenged close to the winning post.
The handsome High Chaparral colt has always been held in high regard by connections and this win at the highest level looks set to be the first of an exciting campaign for the Moyglare homebred. Dermot Weld has outlined the Irish Champion Stakes and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe as the main targets for the four year old this season.
CEO of the Irish National Stud, John Osborne commented on the colt’s win ‘It’s fantastic we have a horse of this calibre and profile for the stud – to win a feature race at Royal Ascot, the most prestigious festival on earth, is brilliant.’
We wish to congratulate all Free Eagle’s connections on a fantastic win and we are looking forward to welcoming him to the Irish National Stud where he will stand upon his retirement.
