Hickory, smart debut 2YO winner for Free Eagle

26th Aug 2020

Hickory, 2Yo son of Free Eagle made a very impressive debut yesterday, sweeping from last to first in The Future Stayers Maiden at Yarmouth for Trainer James Fanshawe, Owner Fred Archer Racing – Galliard and Jockey Tom Marquand.

Bred by Mrs Anne Coughlan, he is the third winner from as many foals, out of the four-time winner Badr Al Badoor (Acclamation), a full-sister to the Gr.3 placedFull Mandate, multiple winner Acclaim The Nation, and half-sister to the Gr.1 King’s Stand Stakes winner and sire Profitable (Invincible Spirit). A Tattersalls Book 3 graduate he sold  for 125,000 gns to Stroud Coleman Bloodstock and Fred Archer Racing.

Racing Post Analysis: Hickory is a brother to 1m2f winner Hover (RPR 77) and a half-brother Archer’s Dream, a smart sprinter for these connections whose wins include a novice on debut and and a Listed race. The dam was also a smart winning sprinter for this trainer, including winning on debut. This colt is himself a bright prospect, overcoming his lack of experience, which was most evident in his slow start, with a ready win at the first attempt.

We look forward to seeing where this smart colt appears next!
