Group 1 Double for King of Speed Invincible Spirit

Royal Meeting, son of Invincible Spirit became his sire’s 18th individual Group 1 winner when taking the Gr.1 Criterium International at Chantilly on Sunday becoming his sire’s second juvenile Group 1 winner of the weekend after Magna Grecia’s heroics in the Gr.1 Vertem Futurity at Doncaster on Saturday.

Owned and bred by Godolphin, he is the sixth foal of Rock Opera, herself a Gr.1 winner over 6 furlongs in South Africa. His half-brother Heavy Metal, a son of Exceed And Excel won three Group races in Meydan last spring.

Trainer Saeed bin Suroor, commented: “Royal Meeting won really well. He is an improving horse and will now spend the winter in Dubai. “It was a big step in class for him today, but he has shown he is a class horse. I have always liked him and been pleased with his work in the mornings. “We will be looking to go to the British Classics next year, the 2,000 Guineas and Derby. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed will make the decisions.”
