Come Fly With Us

Come Fly With Us

31st Jan 2018

Here’s to the new breeding season!   As we leave behind a grey, wet month and welcome a bright and new February, the newborns are beginning to arrive once again, seeding the next cast of future racehorses.  These youngsters will find their feet here in our nursery paddocks and look forward to a summer full of lush green grass, frolicking in their paddocks alongside their dams.

Our latest arrival was born just this morning at 6.30am.  Weighing in at a strapping 58kg, the stunning filly is by our new sire Free Eagle, a most handsome son of the late Epsom Derby winner High Chaparral. One of the great dreams for any stud farm is the prospect of a new sire and in Free Eagle we think we’ve got something very exciting!

Breeders and shareholders get a look at Free Eagle youngsters

Hailing from one of the best families around, Free Eagle boasts a pedigree full of Champions.  Add in a stunning physique, a walk that eats up the ground, all we needed was to see the progeny – and they have NOT disappointed!

After a year of wonderful reports last year from breeders about the first crop of Free Eagle’s chicks, we decided to show off those of our own and shareholders and guests gathered here at the stud for a foal show.  Patrick Diamond, the stud’s Bloodstock expert took the audience through the six foals showing off their best attributes.  Many of them share their sire’s great looks and attitude.  ATR presenter Kevin Ryan then chaired a panel of experts who told us why we should believe in the stallion, including Fiona Craig who represents his breeder Moyglare Stud and Dermot Weld who trained him.

Sharing stories of their own stock, many of the syndicate members ended the beautiful morning in our restaurant for some nibbles and photographs.  We look forward to receiving more updates on this year’s crop of foals and following his yearlings through the ring this autumn.  Don’t hesitate to send in your own Free Eagle images!
