First Season Sire National Defense Impressing Top Trainers either side of the Ocean

6th Apr 2021

National Defense was named 2016’s Champion 2yo In France after  routing his rivals to win The Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagadere by 4 1/2 Lengths. It is of no surprise then that his first juveniles of 2021 are catching the eye of some of the World’s leading trainers. The strength of the comments from the connections that own & train his first crop are hugely exciting for the year ahead.

Ben McElroy acting on behalf of Stonestreet purchased a filly bred by Pier House Stud at the Goffs Orby Sale 2020 for £75,000. The filly is out of Thames Pageant who hails from the family of Gr.1 Oaks filly Flight Of Fancy & is now in the hands of leading American Trainer & regular Royal Ascot winner Wesley Ward. – “ The National Defense filly out of Thames Pageant that I bought at Goffs Orby Sale is a very forward and looks quick in her work, she could be the real deal. She is owned by Stonestreet Farms, trained by Wesley Ward and we will be aiming her at Royal Ascot. We rate this filly highly and will name her soon”

Leading Irish Trainer Joseph O’Brien has also been impressed with the National Defense’s he has in the yard owned by Sun Stud. Joseph trained 2 Group 1 winning juveniles in 2020, so the fact he is speaking so highly of his National Defense’s is very encouraging. Speaking on the Betfair podcast with Kevin Blake Joseph commented ‘I Have a couple of National Defense’s & they seem to be showing up quite well. I have a nice colt that shows plenty of pace by him. They seem mature & we’ll be getting them on the track in April.”

National Defense is the first son of our Champion Stallion Invincible Spirit to stand alongside his incredible sire at the Irish National Stud. Invincible Spirit has very much announced himself as the leading Sire of Sires across the globe with his sons Kingman, I Am Invincible, Lawman, Shalaa, Mayson all providing Group 1 winners and we are all eager to see National Defense add himself to that list. Standing at 5,000 Euro for 2021 if the vibes are right from the yards this will be the lowest figure he will ever stand at.
