Moonlight Cloud put in a magnificent performance in Longchamp yesterday to take the Group 1 Prix de la Foret from last year’s winner Gordon Lord Byron.
The daughter of Invincible Spirit was anchored at the back of the field under a jockey at the top of his game; Thierry Jarnet and he oozed confidence as he sat ten lengths back from the lead coming into the final furlong.
Once the button was pushed on Moonlight Cloud she delivered a lightning turn of foot to put the race to bed in a matter of strides. The official margin was three lengths. This was Moonlight Cloud’s sixth Group 1, third of the campaign and the winning trainer Freddy Head has no firm plans as yet for the incredible filly.
“Of course I’d love her to stay in training, but at six? Who knows, nothing is definite. It’s been a great year for her, winning three Group Ones, beating everything…Thierry said she never had a hard race so maybe she would be as good at six as she is at five. If she ran again it would be over a mile in Hong Kong”
