Black Type success for Equiano in Meydan

Black Type success for Equiano in Meydan

28th Jan 2021

What a great start to the year for The Irish National Stud stallions with two stakes winners inside 24 hours.  Firstly Equiano’s flying sprinter Equilateral won in Meydan before the King Of Speed Invincible Spirit sired a new stakes winner in the form of Blown By Wind at Jebel Ali.

On a classy card at the start of the Dubai Carnival Equilateral took centre stage for the Listed Dubai Dash at Meydan. Equilateral was bidding to retain the crown he had won so impressive 12 months earlier. With the great Frankie Dettori on board he did just that travelling extremely well before showing his blistering speed at the 2f mark to put the race to bed in an impressive fashion as he did in January 2020. In doing so Equilateral reversed the form with Lazuli from the Group 3 Dubai International Stakes at the back end of 2020.

Impressive on this this his first start of 2021, Equilateral looks to have a big year ahead of him. He went close to gaining his first Group 1 behind stablemate Battaash at Royal Ascot in the King’s Stand last year. Equiano himself won the King’s Stand on two occasions and hopefully his son Equilateral will strike gold in 2021. Charlie Hills his trainer has suggested a Group 2 at Meydan will be his next target before targeting the major 5f races across the globe.

Equilateral was bred by Juddmonte out of the Oasis Dream mare Tarentaise and is now owned by Mrs Fitri Hay. Congratulations to all connections from the Irish National Stud.

Equiano is new to our roster for 2021 and this result just adds further proof to what a quality and proven stallion Equiano is. He is already the sire of 29 Stakes horses to date and standing at €3,000 this season he offers incredible value to breeders.
