Another winner for Elusive Pimpernel

9th Jul 2021

Elusive Rain enjoyed a winning debut in the Charleville INH Flat Race at Cork Racecourse on the 9th of July. The 4-year-old gelding by Elusive Pimpernel put in a battling performance to fend off the 17 other starters. Sent off as joint favourite alongside Willie Mullin’s Derracrin, Elusive Rain took a keen hold early on and separated himself from the pack as he passed the 4 furlong marker. Trained by Cathal Byrnes and ridden by jockey Philip Byrnes the gelding’s lead reduced inside the final 100 yards but he held on to win by 1 ½ lengths. Bought by Cathal for €3,500 at the foal sales he explained that “he’s not a big horse, we had him ready to run last year but he had a slight setback so we decided to keep him for a bumper. We’ll either go for a flat maiden or a winners’ bumper now”.

Congratulations to all connections.
