18th Feb 2019
Saturday 16th February was the first yard visit for the I.N.S Racing members as we visited Ross O’Sullivan and Thunder And Roses at Ross’ Yard in Kill. With over 50 members present Ross took everyone onto the gallops and saw stable stars Thunder And Roses who was ridden by Katie Walsh and Bae Des Illes go through their routine canters.
Members were then treated to a flying visit from Ted Walsh before watching a number of Ross’ younger horses schooling over fences and hurdlers. As the horses schooled Thunder And Roses mingled with members who were all keen to grab a photo and cherish the memory of being up close and personal with the iconic Grand National winner.
Ross then gave everyone an insight into the morning routine before giving a quick tour round the yard. Members then mingled and became friendly over a bacon roll and a cup of tea kindly provided by the staff at Ross’ yard (which went down extremely well).
24 hours after leaving the yard, everyone re-gathered, this time at Navan Racecourse where Thunder And Roses contested the hot renewal of the Hunters Chase. It was a fantastic gesture from Navan Racecourse to allow all members into the parade ring and the owners lounge and a gesture we at the Irish National Stud greatly appreciated. Over 75 members listened in as Ross gave jockey Patrick Mullins his instructions before giving him the leg up.
Thunder And Roses finished off the race well to finish 5th in a race that was not run to suit him. Hopefully with some rain and a step up in distance INS Racing members will be seen in the winner’s enclosure before too long.
Overall a fantastic weekend for everyone involved and once again an enormous thank you to Ross O’Sullivan, his staff and all the staff at Navan who made the weekend such a tremendous experience for everyone.
Thunder And Roses will run at Gowran Park next on the 9th March with the plan of bigger and better things to come!
